The Cool of October/My Birthday Month

We are now in the month of OCTOBER!!!  Time really does fly, don't it?  The year is less than two months over with... 😲😲😲😲

It's my birthday month!!  I will officially be 49 years old on October 8th.  I'll be entering the final year of my 40s!  Had a lot of up-and-downs during this particular decade of my life; mostly downs.  A little bit of that fight that I used to have, has now left me.  I still have a lot of my hustle/drive, but I'm trying to be a lot smarter about that; there's always gonna be an angle to find when slinging the books.

We're entering the second half of Latino Heritage Month.  The month officially ends on October 15th.  Still considering doing that controversial episode of The Rough Draft, speaking on my negative feelings towards the current state of the so-called 'Afro Latino movement'.  There's a loooot that I see that's wrong with it.  It's not the same movement that I was a part of, so many decades ago.  Too many clowns are jumping on this, like it's a trend.  It's very fractured, and you have a shit load of posers involved that are only in it for their own self interest, and their own selfish gain. 😡😡😡😡

Doing what I can to promote the books.  I might need to look into some local Kwanzaa events, and see if I can get down as a vendor.  I need to find a way to end the year on a strong and positive note, especially financially.  Sales are abysmal and nonexistent, and it's really getting me down.

Doing a lot of reflecting, since my birthday is coming up.  Still considering that relocation to the continent.  I just really need to get on the ball with that.  I definitely need to get my passport straight, as well as make some final plans to make that move.  I want to gtfoh by the end of 2024.  With the way shit is going here in this country politically, I don't want to stick around and witness the fallout from all this craziness, especially if the community isn't prepared for the repercussions of that fallout.  Fuck that...you can have this fallen so-called empire...

That's all for now.  Will keep you guys updated on my literary and political progress.  Hoping to also get my writing groove back.  Maybe if I can make some sales, that would help.

Uhuru sasa, y paz!!!  Keep the fist raised!!!

Celebrating My Blogiversary

It's just occurred to me.  It's been ELEVEN years since I started this blog.  Man...time really flies by when you're not looking. 😲😲😲😲

I started this blog right before I published my second book "Raise Your Brown Black Fist 2: MORE Political Shouts of an Angry Afro Latino" (Outskirts Press, 2011).  I started this to be an outlet for me as an activist, and also to help with the promotion of my budding writing career, at the time.  I'm glad that I've remained consistent with it; I may not post as much as I did back when I first started, but I'm still keeping this blog alive.  Eleven years, and fourteen books later, my blog is still my main platform to promote myself as a writer, and a way for me to promote my activism in the literary arts.

I had my concerns with starting the blog; I didn't want it to be an outlet for constantly ranting about one issue, or another.  I get that I sometimes do sound a bit sour on here, considering the issues that I've been having with poor sales and all...but, for the most part...I'm providing myself with a voice, and keeping myself out there.

Thank you to all that have supported me, and continue to follow the blog.  No matter where I share this, may you continue to follow my blog, and enjoy my posts.  I hope that you find the blog posts informative, and also entertaining.  Please continue to support the blog, and support my books.

Keep the fist raised.

The Struggles of Indie Authors/Creatives [***RANT SESSION***]

For those of you that actually pay attention to my videos, this is the continuation of an episode of "The Rough Draft" that I shot; Episode #48, to be exact.  Felt the need to blow off some steam, and set the record straight, and apparently...I need to blow off a little more steam.  Been feeling really frustrated & disrespected lately, and I think that I need to go deeper in depth...

As an indie author, I'm carrying the same mentality that I had when I was still involved in the film & television world, being a screenwriter; I wanna work in the industry, not for it.  I choose to be independently published b/c I know the headache of trying to find a (decent) agent, or at least, a good small publisher to publish your book.  Also, you know your story best, so you know how & who to market your book to, no matter what genre that you write in.  I know plenty of authors that write speculative fiction that can attest to that.  Not to mention, the rash of consolidation within the publishing industry within the last two decades, or so...?  The publishing world is getting smaller & smaller by the day (if not, the waning minutes).

At the same time...I don't have an MFA.  I have no connections to any literary nonprofit organizations.  I've never held a fellowship.  Nor do I have a well paying day job that allows me the financial flexibility to pay for reviews, or a publicist.  My hashtag #AlwaysOnMyLiteraryGrind has meaning BECAUSE I'm actually ON my literary grind!!  Whatever accolades (which ain't many) that I receive, it's because of my hard work to promote my shit, & get the word out to the public.  NOBODY helps me to do shit, when it comes to my writing career.  My grind is really MY grind.  Nobody promotes my books for me, or does any type of outreach for my books.  I've even created a mf video series to help me promote my writing career in "The Rough Draft" (that apparently nobody watches).

It's a little infuriating to see people just brush you off, and dismiss any & everything that you do, as if it's big joke, and nothing to be taken seriously.  They don't watch the videos & comment, they don't buy & review your books, nor do they come out to any events that you organize and/or participate in.  Out of the fourteen books that I've published, I'd pre-promoted the last seven books ahead of their publication.  Hardly anybody joined the gd Facebook Events that I created for them; I didn't even crack TWENTY people to accept the invite. Whats' the fucking point?!?!?!  😡😡😡😡😡

The sales afterward have been even more abysmal.  Htf is it that I know all of these different people, activist,  & organizations, but can't get none of you mf bastards to buy a copy of my books?!  And, even if you do actually buy it, do you even bother to read it, and leave a fucking review for it, or even recommend it to your circle of friends and associates...?  Hell...I'd be happy with a personal dialog with you, just to get your feedback on the book. At least then I'll know that you actually read the motherfucka!  Which character(s) did you like...?  What worked for you?  What didn't..?  What was your favorite chapter/scene...?  What character(s) didn't you like/hated..?  Did I intend for you to hate them, or did you just not like the way I wrote that/those character(s)...?  This is the type of feedback that I'm looking for & crave; they make me a better writer.  It also lets me know if I achieved my goal with that particular book, as far as your response is concerned.  Or...I know that you're not the right audience for that particular book, depending on your response/understanding of that particular book.

Would it kill you to actually watch the episodes of my vlog series, and leave a mf comment?!?!  Even if you don't have a YouTube account, can you nuccas say SOMETHING under the post?!?!  None of that 'good job' bullshit; that's so fucking generic.  Say something about the mf episode, whatever tf the discussion topic is!  Don't just press the 'like' button, and keep it mf moving!  I hate that shit!!!  It is so mf disrespectful!!  This isn't a mf joke to me; it's my calling, my mf career!!!  How would you like it , if I acted all dismissive about something that you were passionate about...that you felt was your purpose in life...?  Writing the books...producing the vlog series...and promoting the books is VERY time consuming!!

STOP acting as if my writing career is some huge joke!  It's not a fucking hobby that I don't take seriously, or don't really care about! I'm not some one-shot bucket lister, writing a book just to say that I wrote a mf book, and check it off my bucket list!  I've been writing for fucking YEARS!!!  Just because some of you out there don't have any passions, that doesn't mean that I don't!  I need more out of life, other that just getting liquored up, getting high, or randomly getting sexed up!

Feel however you want to feel about this post; I couldn't give a shit.  I'm tired of feeling disrespected, and not supported.  You dumb niggas know that my shit it out here, available in more that one format, I might add...but still won't support my career, or my books.  But...you niggas will jump on any bandwagon, and prop up some author with a name, because the mainstream media (white ppl) told you to do so.  Fuck y'all.

That's my rant session....

November Anniversaries!!!!

We have now reached the month of NOVEMBER!!!  The second to last month of the year.  Time has surly flown by, this year.  Weren't we just celebrating new years, just last week...?  Now the year is almost over.  It seems like the older you get, the fast time goes by.

As we are now in November, help me to celebrate the TEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY of this blog!!!!!  Ten years ago in 2011, I first started this blog (November 10th, to be exact).  I wasn't really sure if I should start a blog or not, as I wanted to be consistent with its content.  Starting the blog was a testament to my desire to build my writing career, as I was in the process of releasing my second book, at the time.  This blog was to be a platform for both my political activism, especially concerning Afro Latino issues & affairs, as well as a vehicle to help me promote my books, and later, novels.  I have to admit, it's been a struggle to maintain this blog.  People have fallen off with their support, and there were times when I struggled to have content to post here.  People seem to not know that I get viewership analytics, whenever I log into my account.  Basically, I can see how many people have actually viewed my posts; recent, or otherwise.  But...I'm still doing it.  The blog is still here.  I'm still posting content, and promoting my works.  In certain ways, it kinda beats having an actual website to maintain, but it also has its shortcomings.  Here's to another decade of posting content, and spreading my philosophy....

November also marks the ten-year publishing anniversary of my second book "Raise Your Brown Black Fist 2: MORE Political Shouts of an Angry Afro Latino" (Outskirts Press, 2011).

Ten years ago, I published the follow-up sequel to my first book.  I expanded the "Black Thoughts" essay series, and expanded it to sixteen essays, from the original seven.  It was warmly received when I originally published the book.   Of course, there were a few folks who shitted on me, and didn't support it, claiming that they had never received their copy of the first book, so they didn't want that to happen with the second book (even though I used a totally different publisher with this book).  But, yet...niggas never called customer service to let them know that, or even me for that matter, and I paid for it with their nonsupport.  But....I digress...

RYBBF is available in both paperback AND eBook formats.  If you don't feel like buying the physical copy, you can always download it for $1.99 through the various eBook outlets of Kindle, Nook, Kobo, iTunes, Scribd, and in eBook format through libraries, as well.

November marks TEN months that "Knuckle Up" (Kindle Direct Publishing, 2021) has been released.  Sales are still stagnant, though I'm doing what I can to promote it. Haven't received any reviews for it, either.  I've tried promoting it to actual female fighters through social media, but that has been a no-go.  Oh, well....it's out there, and I'm still promoting it.

November also marks the beginning of my Holiday Economic Support Initiative.  Lasting from "Black Friday" until New Years Day, this campaign is meant to bolster economic support for Black-owned & Latino-owned businesses & entrepreneurs.  If WE don't support our businesses & entrepreneurs, who will?!?!  Don't be talking all of this rhetoric on social media, and then you don't even back up that shit you be talking about.  Stop trying to act all 'woke' & shit, when yo ass, ain't!  I've being doing this initiative since 2014; if you want to support, you can tag a business of entrepreneur that you know on social media, and use the hashtags #HolidayEconomicSupportInitiative, or #HESI to help to promote & support that business, or entrepreneur that you know, and have actually supported.  Also...SPEND YOUR MONEY WITH THEM!!!!  I'm hoping that this campaign will catch fire, and cause us to actually support our own.  Considering how corporate America disrespects us, and our community (and the larger society, for that matter), let's try to hit them where it really hurts.  You don't have to be marching in the streets to be involved in activism.  Let's start using whatever social media powers and influence that we have for good, hmmm....?

That's about all for now.  Help me to celebrate my anniversaries, and to support my economic campaign.  Also...buy a couple of books....and leave a damn review, while you're at it!!!  I'll keep you guys updated on my progress.

Keep the fist raised.

End of an Era--Universal Africana Literary Arts Movement

February 26, 2021....today is the end of an era.  This is the date when I am shutting down my networking organization the Universal Africana Literary Arts Movement.  From it's beginning in 2008 as a mere literary arts festival, to the end of The Movement this year of 2021, it was 13 years of altruistic love & support for my people in the field and industry of literature.

After 13 years of operation, I've decided to shut the organization down.  I'd been mulling the decision over for some time now, but with the coming of the COVID-19 coronavirus last year, it basically helped me to solidify my decision.  I can't serve 2 different masters; my own writing career, and my activism & advocacy for the literary arts.

It all started back in 2007 after I'd relocated to the south, moving to Richmond, VA.  Things were drastically different there, as opposed to what I had available to me, while living in NYC.  I had access to a plethora of Black media and literary resources; Black newspapers (not just AA), book vendors on the streets, access to Black bookstores, etc.  None of that really existed in Richmond, and there was pretty much an intellectual & literary void.  Not to mention...the so-called 'activists' that I'd met and communed with out there, had the attention span of a mf nat.  I needed a way to pass on the information that I had onto others; trying to organize road trips was out of the question, as none of these fake ass 'activists' ever wanted to organize shit, or go anywhere that didn't inflate their bullshit ass egos.  Enter the first incarnation, and genesis for what became the movement, the Black CapaCity Literary Arts Festival.

Btw...the word is pronounced 'capacity'.  Not 'Capa City".  Ain't no space, ain't no goddamn hyphen.  It's one fucking word!!!!

Anyway....

The festival was first held in April of 2008.  It was actually quite successful; we had between 150-200 people attend the event.  From there, it snowballed into a movement.  I reached out to the people on the Mailing List that I'd created, thanked those who attended, and for those that hadn't...provided them with a listing of events that I knew were going on.  It grew from there...

Enter...The Movement...

A year later in 2009, primarily because I had a major falling out with those fake ass people that I was in an organization with, we went from being known as the Black CapaCity Literary Arts Festival/Movement, to our current incarnation as the Universal Africana Literary Arts Movement.  We grew from there.  I reached out to many people within the literary arts; indie authors, poets, comic book artists, graphic artists, magazine publishers, book publishers, book clubs, Black bookstores, and cultural youth organizations.  I represented for indie Black & Latino literary artists, providing them with opportunities to help them promote their work; from cultural festivals, to book fairs, to comic cons, Black expos, to writing contests, and even promoting their latest releases to the bookstores & other groups & organizations within the Mailing List.  I created the SoE/Schedule of Events list to distribute to the members, and let them know (quarterly) about the different events going on...eventually throughout the African Diaspora, and around the world.

Alas....the past 13 years had been a very solitary 13 years.  The Movement was held down and maintained by one man...ME.  I never got the help that I felt I deserved, for the type of work that I was trying to do. I never cared to profit off of the services that I was providing; anybody on the Mailing List could have easily done the same research that I'd done/been doing, on their own.  I would have loved to have some help with the research, creating a website, finally being able to hold our real-world event the Universal Africana Literary Arts Expo, etc.  Hell, I would've loved to have had help with the merchandising aspect of the Movement (developing apparel like t-shirts, & hats).  But, I never got that type of help.  People loooved the fact that I was providing them information...for FREE!!  But...actually helping me to do all of this work...?  Naaaah. People didn't have the stomach for that.

There are no heirs to the Movement.  There is no one for me to pass the torch to.  I've had inquiries for taking over the Mailing List, but on a much limited scale.  At the same time, I'm not willing to chase anyone down to do the work.  People like the service that I provide, but ain't trying to hear putting in the level of work that I put into it.  The Movement was NEVER  about me, or making a profit.  It was about representing for our people in the literary field & industry.  ESPECIALLY at the time that I was doing it, when people were complaining about the severe lack of Black/Brown/POC voices in the literary industry.  Then again...I was severely grassroots with my work, so nobody was really trying to hear wtf I was doing.  But yet...folks wanna be all over social media, hashtagging shit like #WeNeedMoreDiverseBooks, but wasn't really trying to holla at any of us indie authors.

Oh well....

Here is to the members of the Universal Africana Literary Arts Movement.  This is for the true believers in what I was trying to do.  Will the Movement ever be resurrected again...?  Who knows.  Shout out to all of those out there who were inspirations to me, who laid the foundation for what became the Movement: Turtel Onli, Ron Kavanaugh, Khadijah Ali-Coleman, Dr. Yumy Odom, E. Wayne McDonald, Maia "Crown" Williams, and so many others that laid the foundation.  Shout out to all of those that had supported & benefited form the Movement, and became dear personal friends of mine.

The Facebook page will remain active, but I will NO LONGER be sending out the emails.

Always on our literary grind,

Exit 2020

Today is the LAST day of 2020.  This has been a somewhat horrendous year to live through.  The country was struck with a deadly pandemic that has taken about 340,000 lives....no thanks to the incompetence of the political leadership of the country.  Celebrities and citizens alike have lost their lives, and ordinary citizens have lost their livelihoods, and even their homes/place of residence.  Others have lost their business(es), as well.  Not to mention, the rash of racial shootings by the police across the country, and many of the street protests, as well as the riots/rebellions that followed them.  Bigotry had shown its ugly face within the presidency, the general populous, and many of the political leaders too afraid to stand up to the (so-called) leader of the country.

Yeah....a lot of people are glad to see this year come to an end.  Who can blame them?

I lost my own job in this mess, even though I did get to release TWO books this year, to celebrate my Ten Year anniversary as a published author.  My lack of sales left A LOT  to be desired, but that's pretty usual for me, since most people would rather press a 'like' button, than to actually buy/download my books.  But, I digress...

Farewell to 2020.  It was a tumultuous year for one and all. If you made it through it, let's hear it for those of us who survived.  Let us continue persevering, and trying to maintain our sanity, and move forward.  Do what you can, and need to do, to deal with the trauma of this year.  Hopefully, 2021 will be full of better days.

Oh yeah...Happy Kwanzaa!!  Habari gani...?  Kuumba!!!

Black August Rising.....

 SOOOOOOOOOO.......

We have just about completed the first week of August.  The year is now about 2/3 over with.  Time really is starting to fly by.  We are in some trying times, right now.  At last count, about 160,000 people have already died from the coronavirus in the United States.  A number of states are shutting back down, again, and job losses are at an extremely high level.  The politicians are fighting among themselves, claiming to be negotiating for a relief package for the citizens, but we all know that to be kinda bullshit.  Considering that the election is in another three months, you would think that they would do something significant, if they really want to maintain their office, huh?  But...wtf do I know, anyway...?

My sales are still flat, overall.  Nothing for the two latest releases, or for any of my other previously published projects  (HAH....try saying that five time fast  :-) !!!!).  It gets a little infuriating, this lack of support.  But yet...niggas will name drop Ibram Kendi, or Ta-Nehisi Coates, and post all over social media how they've bought their books, posting pictures and shit.  But, then again....I'm just a hater.  ***EXTREME sarcasm dripping***

Aaaaaaaaaaanyway.....

"The Rough Draft" turns one years old this month!!!  August 23rd actually makes it one year since I've started the vlog on YouTube.  I'm planning on doing a special episode for it; I've contacted people on my email Mailing List to submit questions to ask me about my career, writing process, character, etc.; basically, it'll be an 'Ask-the-Author' segment.  Surprisingly, I actually got some feedback from people on the questions to ask.  I'll be reading all of the respondents questions in the video, and answering them.  I'm considering posting the link here, after the episode is shot & edited....

Speaking of "The Rough Draft", Episode #16 has been shot and posted on YouTube.  No...I won't be posting the link here.  You can go to YouTube, and look for it.

My latest literary project "Knuckle Up" is progressing really well.  I juuuust might publish it in 2021.  I'm continuing to edit the manuscript, and I've already designed 2 versions of the book cover.  I'm pretty happy with the progress of this project, and I kinda can't wait to drop it.  I'll let you guys know when I plan on releasing that project next year.

August is the month of revolution.  It is the birth month of the Rt. Hon. Marcus Mosiah Garvey, founder of the Universal Negro Improvement Association & African Communities League  (UNIA & ACL).  I believe that it is also the month when George Jackson died in San Quentin federal prison, and his brother Jonathan Jackson died trying to break him out of prison.  Learn about your past revolutionaries, and use that information to help improve our communities, and help to make them better.  Shout out to Black Lives Matter!!!  Keep up the struggle!!!

Well, that'll be all for now.  Catch ya on the flip side!!!

Keep the fist raised.

The Latest Report: #TheTransplantChronicles2

Today makes it exactly one month that I've been out here.  I do feel more relaxed, than before I left.  I feel like I have more piece of mind.  I don't feel as burdened by the bullshit, as I was before.  That was pretty much the whole reason for me TO come out this way.

I'm still getting acclimated to the city of Wilmington.  I almost forgot how it felt like to walk out of the house, and NOT want to feel like punching someone in the face.  People actually greet you out here, and not just stare in your damn face, and not say nothing.  Shit like that would get you murdered, back in the day.

Anyway...I digress....

I haven't been able to explore very much of the city, but I have been able to make my way around.  Since I'm on a curfew, and my outside access is limited, I haven't gotten the chance to really explore, and immerse myself in the city; I have to take my opportunities to do that while I'm job hunting.  Shit...at least I'm getting callbacks, and inquiries out here.  I wasn't getting SHIT back in NY, which is why I fucking left.  Wtf I look like staying there and struggling, off of some supposed bullshit conception that people have of the city, that just ISN'T true, and HASN'T been true for the last 10-15 years?!

Anyway....

Slowly but surely, I'm getting everything together for the publication of my upcoming EIGHTH book "Seductra: Web of Desire".  The cover art is done, and I'm still doing last-minute editing of the manuscript.  I haven't started on the other two conversion projects of "Time Will Reveal", and "Fiesta Girl"; I'm probably gonna leave those two alone for a while.  At least I have them as first drafts....

Gotta admit...it's ratchet as fuck out where I'm staying.  It's not so much the crime, but the lack of adult/parental guidance and leadership for the youth out here.  It's more sad and depressing, than anything.  The adults are all strung out on drugs and alcohol, while the youth are just hang out on the street corners, blatantly smoking weed like it's going out of fashion, imitating the ratchet ass behavior that you see on television. Seriously, for me it's like...where the fuck is the conscious community at?!  If there was EVER a call for community activism and uplift....this is it!

I have to admit, I'm fighting the urge to get back into "activist mode" while I'm out here.  That's NOT why I came out here, and relocated out of state.  I've been burned too many times being a souljahr, and I'm NOT trying to go there, again.  I'm burned out by my experiences in VA, B'more, and my bullshit return back to NYC.  Fuck the dumb shit...even souljahrs have to retire....

I am feeling more upbeat, relaxed, and more positive.  Other than needing to get back to where I want to be personally and financially, I'm doing good, and glad that I made that transition out of the state.  The rest of y'all can keep that bullshit; I'm moving on to better things in my life.  As my peoples from NBUF would say...forward ever, backwards, never.

Cultural Caravan Interview airdate: November 20, 2016

My interview that I shot for "Cultural Caravan" aired on Sunday, November 20, 2016.  The interview aired at 5:30pm on WNYC-TV Ch 25.1 (over air), and Ch. 22 (Cablevision) on cable.  I was unaware of the airdate until the day before. I'd received a phone call and an email from the show's producer on Saturday to inform me of the show's airing.

Cultural Caravan is also rebroadcasted on Cablevision's BRIC Media cable access channel Ch. 68 during the week.  Since you probably missed it when it aired last night, you will have an opportunity to catch it during the week on cable access.  I am unaware if they have uploaded the video to their website yet, or on their YouTube channel.

Just wanted to let you guys know about it.  Please check it out if you can.

Poets & Passion, A Carribean Literary Lime: Emancipated Voices

On August 3rd, the Caribbean Cultural Theatre presented their latest installment of their series "Poets & Passion, a Caribbean Literary Lime".  The theme for this event was "Emancipated Voices", considering that this year marks 50 years that a number of the island have been free and independent.  You were graced by the poetry and literary minds of Samantha Thornhill, Vladimir Lucien, and Tiphane Yanique, speaking on the campus of Medgar Evers College.

Since I don't live too far from the campus, I was lucky enough to be able to attend the event.  It was well attended, and the speakers DID NOT disappoint.  All of them read from their respective books of poetry, and we were graced with a short panel discussion and Q&A afterward.  Their individual works were all available for sale at the event, both before and after they spoke.  Having been a featured panelist/participant in a past Lime, I needed to come out and support my fellow writers/artists.  Plus, I have not been able to enjoy myself as of late, and felt the need to come out, and have my face seen.  It was also good, because I got to see a few people that I haven't seen in a while, due to my financial struggles.

I hope to be able to make it out to more events like this.  I'm still plugging away with the promotion of my own works, as well as focusing on relocating.  If I'm not going to be appreciated here in NYC, might as well find someplace else where my work will be.  ANYTHING is better than struggling like this.

Ujamaa Effect: Putting "El Negro" in Viernes Negro [Holiday Hustle]

It's that time of year again for me, and other indie creative content creators....

The holidays are coming up, and it's time for all of us indies to fight for your dollars along side the big industry behemoths of the world that have all of the marketing power at their disposal.  In recent years, they've tried to expand it beyond the usual confines of just "Black Friday".  It is now Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and more recently added, Cyber Sunday.  My usual plan is to constantly promote my published works from November, all the way up to February, taking advantage of not only "Black Friday" after Thanksgiving, but also Christmas, Kwanzaa, MLK's Birthday, and Black History Month.

I think that people need to work harder at supporting our entrepreneurs and indie artists, and not just give our money away to these big conglomerates and box stores.  I know too many of my fellow content creators who are struggling to get supported by the consumer community, especially our own people.  Our people like to complain a lot, but don't really back up a lot of their complaints with any real concrete action.  There are too many of us that are promoting the heck out of our works online, and not getting any type of support.

Let's try to really support our Black/Brown entrepreneurs.  Speaking for myself, my works are all available online at Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble [www.bn.com], and Books-A-Million [www.booksamillion.com].  You can also go to the publisher's site for each book, to purchase a copy during the holidays.

So...lets REALLY try to put the 'black' into Black Friday.  Let's talk with our dollars, and really show some financial 'black/brown power'.  If we really do have TRILLIONS in disposable income, then lets spend that money wisely, and with our own.

Rant Session: Fuck The Police

I'm really getting tired of this crap....

First you had the Grand Jury in Ferguson, MO let off the killer of Michael Brown, and now recently in my hometown of NYC, they let yet another cop walk for killing an unarmed brother on the street, Eric Gardner.

I'm also sick of the hashtagging and street protests.  Gathering and marching isn't going to change a DAMN thing!  The marches don't scare, nor intimidate them.  They see it as a nuisance...nothing more.  As I said before, marching worked back in the day because it was something that was unexpected of us.  They thought that we would remain docile and compliant, so when we did march, it was unprecedented.

FUCK MARCHING!!!!

I'm not going to march on Washington, City Hall, or wherever, and beg the government to do anything!  They won't do anything...they never have!  Even the Civil Rights Bills was ridiculously watered down and stripped of it's bite when it was finally passed.  What we really need to do is organize, and FIGHT BACK!!!!

We need to bring back a lot of these fighting formations from our past.  They won't stop wantonly shooting us down, and disrespecting our communities until we make some consequences for their actions.  Hell...even the ANC (African National Congress) had their military wing, the Umkhonto WeSiswe (MK), so that they could fight on both fronts.  We NEED to bring back the BLA (Black Liberation Army) and Deacons for Defense, and let the powers that be know that this WON'T be further tolerated.  You can keep your nonviolent bullshit, and shove it where the sun don't shine!

"To be practicing nonviolence against a violent enemy is doing a disservice to your community"--Malcolm X

We NEED to start practicing self defense!  Start forming RBG Fit & Training Clubs, organize ourselves, arm ourselves with political education, history, and military tacitcs, and FIGHT BACK!!!

In my 40 years of existence, I've been harassed and profiled by the cops.  I've known other associates who have been brutalized by the police.  This is systemic, it always has been.  Cut the crap!  If you're too much of a punk to stand up and fight, then sit down, STFU...and get the flying fuck out of the way, and let those of us that are willing to fight, fight.  If you're too busy looking out for your own self interest because you benefit from this bullshit system, they you are as much a part of the problem as they are, and you also need to be dealt with.

The time is NOW!!!!!!

STAND UP!!!!!

Aftermath--Ferguson Grand Jury Decision

Can't say that I'm surprised...

We've seen it happen time and time again.  Hell, I've seen it happen in my own hometown too many times to count.  Cop shoots Black/Latino person...DA takes it to the Grand Jury...cops get off scott free.  Hell, I remember the Rodney King beating case, and you had video evidence of the cops wrongdoing, and they STILL got off.  I'm basically going to reiterate what I've said before in this blog...

Forget the nonviolent marching crap.  They don't care about us marching.  It doesn't phase them, nor impress them.  What we need to do, is start practicing SELF DEFENSE!!!  This is going to continue to happen because they know that there will be no consequences for their actions; not by the legal system, nor by our community.  There is no trust there because THEY'VE NEVER EARNED IT!!!  Just because you wear a uniform DOES NOT mean you are to be automatically respected (if not, feared).

Again...to echo the ancestor El Hajj Malik El Shabazz:
"When you tell your people to stop being violent towards my people...then I will tell my people to put their guns away."

Even during the Civil Rights Movement, MANY who were actively involved in the movement questioned the use of nonviolence.  Marching and protesting have their time and place; THIS AIN'T IT.  These are not isolated incidences that occur; this is something that happens systemically in our communities TO US.  The only way that it'll stop, is if we FORCE them to stop.  You had the Deacons For Defense & Justice, the Black Panther Party For Self Defense, Black Liberation Army, Universal Africa Legion through the UNIA, and a few other formations that existed.  Hell, even the ANC had their paramilitary wing, the Umkhonto weSiswe (MK).  NOT having a defense stance is stupid.  It shows that you know nothing about history, nor about political strategy.  What we need is real unity, organization and direction, for proper mobilization of our people.  WE know our neighborhoods better than they do; that gives us the tactical military advantage.  A well organized resistance is the scariest thing in the face of an enemy.

"The single best weapon our enemy has, is a lack of consciousness among our people"--Osageyfo Kwame Nkrumah.

Musings: Michael Brown, Eric Garner, and other deadly encounters with the Boyz in Blue

So I've been a bit quiet about this as of late.  I wanted to have enough time to be able to coherently gather my thoughts, and to properly express what I'm feeling inside.  Let me echo one of my favorite rap artists, 2Pac:

"They claim that I'm violent, just cause I refuse to be silient,
These hypocrites are having fits, cause we're not buying it,
defying it..."

Or, better yet, how about Michael Jackson:

"All I really wanna say...they don't really care about us!"

We've seen this time and time again.  We see the same response by so-called Civil Rights activist/leaders calling for calm and peace.  They make calls to "act accordingly", and not be confrontational, to practice nonviolence as a solution.

FUCK THAT!!!!

We DON'T need calm.  Calm has never brought us any results.  Hell...nonviolence has never been proved to be an effective tactic against the oppressive powers.  If any of you had actually bothered to study history, instead of listening to the bullshit rhetoric of these old ass talking heads on these Sunday morning news shows, you would know that even during the Civil Rights struggle, you had MANY that questioned the tactic of nonviolence after several deadly encounters with police forces in the American Deep South.  That's one of the main reasons for the little splits that happened during the movement.

We don't need more damned discussions.  What we need is organization and mobilization to counteract this oppressive treatment by an ever-increasingly militarized police force.  We've been asleep at the wheel for the last 13 years (and lost our backbone <not to mention our minds> for the last 6 years); it's time to wake up, and face reality.

We need to defend ourselves.  If we learned nothing from the BPP-SD, it was that we needed to protect ourselves from external forces that were detrimental to our community.  Those who focused solely on their community programs and NOT on their self defense program and doctrine have shown that they know NOTHING about that organization, and truly have NO idea what they were about.

Let's cut the crap here.  Michael Brown wasn't some young thug making trouble in the community.  Eric Garner wasn't some local petty criminal making problems for the community.  Neither deserved to be murdered by the police for no other reason than being a Black man on the street.  When Eric Garner was murdered, he was accused of selling 'loosies' on the street, yet NONE were found on him at the crime scene, and WITNESSES were on hand to say that he was breaking up a fight, and had nothing to do with any criminality going on.

We are asleep and spineless.  We are completely apathetic and complacent.  Yeah..you'll have a few people go on social media...pop off at the mouth...and then go back to their bullshit lives, worrying about Scandal, Real Housewives, R&B Divas, and other stupid-ass nonsensical shit.  We NEED TO FIGHT BACK!!!!!!

We need our own fighting formations.  If you're too much of a pussy to want to stand up and fight, and talk that I-hate-violence bullshit, take your ass somewhere, sit your ass down, and SHUT THE FUCK UP.  We do too much talking, and not enough action.  To echo 2Pac again:

"They claim I'm violent, then violent's what I gotta be"

Or, maybe I should be echoing my peoples Public Enemy:

"Shut 'em down".

I'll even through my own voice into the mix:

"No respect to the Boyz In Blue,
And it's not because I hate ya, it's just the shit I see you do,
Givin' beat downs, buck downs...goin' insane,
Ya runnin' shit, can't even roll through my own domain..."

If they want to militarize the police force, then we need to create OUR OWN community defense force.  There are a number of grassroots organizations in our community that are doing just that, but we choose to dismiss them as if they are crazy, and show them no support.  Don't wait until it is too late, for another incident to hit our community.  Stand up, and FIGHT BACK!!  There is NOTHING wrong with fighting back.  If we can cheer an uprising in a foreign country, then why not cheer and support an (well deserved) uprising on the home front?

Strategize....organize....MOBILIZE!!!!!
