End-of-Year Wrap-up 2021

We have entered the last 2 weeks of the year.  The Winter Solstice starts tonight/tomorrow, Xmas & Kwanzaa are this coming weekend, and News Years Day falls on the following Sunday.  We will then be in the year 2022.  So how did 2021 stack up for me, personally...?

I consider 2021 to be another off year b/c of the pandemic.  I wasn't able to go out and physically promote my latest novel "Knuckle Up" (Kindle Direct Publishing, 2021), so I had to immensely rely on online promotions for it.  Sales were what is usual for me; basically nonexistent.  I had a sale or two here and there, but nothing major.  It's quite infuriating, especially with all of this hoopla of ppl talking about supporting authors/artists of color; oh, wait....you mean supporting establishment artists/authors of color that get promoted to you by the mainstream, or some bullshit corporate nonprofit, riiiiight...?  Either that, or some fucking clique that thinks that they're setting the standard, or trend.

2021 didn't start off well.  I tore my patellar tendon in January, and didn't realize how severe the injury was.  I had surgery for it in March, and have been working my way back, ever since.  Thankfully, I'm in pretty good physical shape, so it didn't take me all that long to recover from my injury.  I was finally hired back to my day job in May, after being laid off b/c of Covid.  I ended up leaving that job, and the state of Delaware, by late August.  Delaware just wasn't cutting it anymore (it didn't really cut it for me, in the first place), and I needed greener pastures to grow my writing career.  Not to mention, my fucked up ass roommate situation, which was another main reason for me leaving the state.  The ppl out there are mf wacky.  4 1/2 years was long enough; I couldn't take being out there any longer.

I've been in North Carolina for almost 4 months now.  I'm liking it so far, as I have peace of mind out here.  I feel like I can breathe, and I have room for my mental sanity.  I was able to complete my latest manuscript, and it is now ready for publication in 2022.  I know that there is still the Delta strain, and now the Omicron variant(s) of Covid that are out here affecting the populous, but I'm hoping to get back to doing in-person appearances in 2022.  I could use the boost to my writing career, not to mention, I just like the interaction with readers & potential fans.  I'm targeting a May release for my next novel "Second Chance Points" (KDP, 2022).

I haven't shot a new episode of The Rough Draft since moving out here.  I need to get back on the ball with that.  The show celebrated our two year anniversary this past August.  Once my day job schedule regulates, I'm hoping to continue producing & expand it, by doing field productions, and hopefully some interviews.  I might put this gd smartphone I now have to good use, lol, lol, lol, lol....

One sad note for this year for me was having to shut down the Universal Africana Literary Arts Movement.  That really hurt me to do it, but I didn't really have a choice.  I couldn't serve two different masters; my writing career, and the Literary Arts Movement.  Something had to give.  Covid was the reason for the shut down; maybe I can revive it down the line...?  I miss the interaction with the ppl on the Mailing List, though I don't know how many of them really care that the Movement is no longer around.  Running the Movement all by myself was a pain in the ass, and I don't know if I want to go through that all over again, by myself.  Only time will tell...

Looking forward to bigger & better things in 2022.  Hope to keep you all updated about my plans.  There is still some time left for the Holiday Economic Support Initiative, so keep spreading the word about these different artists, authors, entrepreneurs, and businesses that you know.  Keep posting the hashtag, and FINANCIALLY support these people!!!

Keep the fist raised!!!

November News....

We have entered into the month of November.  The numbers of deaths from the coronavirus has reached 230,000+ people.  Also, the presidential election has just passed, as as of this post, they are still counting the votes.  The last time I checked, the Democratic candidate, former V.P. Joe Biden was ahead in the electoral college vote 263 to 214 against (so-called) President Donald Trump.  My nephew Enrique's birthday is this coming Monday, November 9th, and my childhood best friend from junior high school Alexander also has his birthday this weekend; Sunday November 8th, to be exact.

Yep...we're living in interesting times.  At least the year is almost over.  2020 has been a whopper of a year.  A lot of death, and a lot of other losses.

My web series "The Rough Draft" is going well.  I just posted Episode 26 on YouTube.  Wish that I could get a few more views and a lot more feedback for my online work.  Comments help, people!!!  A few purchases wouldn't hurt, either.  The books are available in both paperback AND eBook formats, so you have NO excuse for not supporting the writing career.  You'd think that, after doing this shit consistently for TEN years, people would actually start to take me seriously, by now....

Speaking of books...NEW PUBLISHING RELEASE!!!  :-D

I finished writing "Knuckle Up" (Kindle Direct Publishing, 2021).  The cover art is finished, the backcover synopsis is done, and the project is ready for publication.  I've finally chosen a release date for the book.  Be on the lookout for the book to drop on January 22, 2021!!!

That's all for now.  Looking forward to keeping you guys in the loop.  Catch you in the next post!

Keep the fist raised.

Veneral Equinox

So, today is the first official day of Spring....the Veneral (Spring) Equinox.  It's actually quite cold and cloudy today.  BUT.....it's a new season, and the energy is coming anew.  Makes me feel like spittn' somethin' all poetic, and whatnot.....

A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-Ahem-hem-hem......

Poem........

"When ya crushin', really crushin'.....

When she lights up a room when she enters, just by her presence,
Those beautiful eyes, that smile, the sexiness of her voice...
Straight up being sexy, without even trying to be,
That swing, that gait, that sassiness, that shape...
Whether you handlin' your business, or being ride or die,
When temples should be built in your name and honor...
When ya wanna bow down every single day, every single time, in her presence,
When you deserve to be deified, and blessed every waking moment of every day...
As the song says, "You got it....you got it bad..."...

When ya crushin', really crushin'....."

(C) 2018

Hey....it's a work-in-progress.  If you want better examples of what I can spit, check out my  poetry eBook "Spittin' Lyrics N Waxin' Poetic" (Draft2Digital, 2015).

Hoping that the change in season will help to move me forward, and get to where I want to be.  Had to shed some negative energy recently; some punk ass from my past that I had to cut off (actually, had to cut off AGAIN).  Hadda block his stupid ass on social media, this time.  Fuck it....he wasn't worth it.  You can only go so far with certain people in your life.  Snip, snip.....

Trying to boost sales for "Fiesta Girl" (Draft2Digital, 2018).  Been doing my usual outreach, but it's going reeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaally slowly.  Not trying to say that I should be a millionaire by now, or anything like that, but come ON!  Can a brother get SOME sorta support?!?!?

Anyway......

Primarily focusing on outreach, and promotions right now.  I'm not even bothering to write a new project.  I'm a little tapped out, right about now.  Sales have been ridiculously stagnant, and I'm trying to gain some sort of momentum.  Basically been spending all of last year trying to rebuild, and get my paper straight, so that I can continue to invest in my writing career.  Hoping to hit the festival circuit this year, and do a few events.  Only time will tell.  Got some other issues that I'm dealing with that might hinder that....

But....I digress.

Hit you back next time!

Uhuru sase, y paz!!!
